Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the research design, methods and topics of the thesises among the academic circles of child nursing and to contribute establishing the future direction of child nursing.
Data were collected by masters and doctoral thesis and journals of the academic circles such as Mother & Child Care Society of Korea, Nursing Academy of Korea, Adult Care Academy, Child Nursing Academy, Student Care Academy of Korea, College Nursing Research Society, Parents & Children Health Academy and Basic Nursing Society.
The results were as follows:
1. In the general characteristics of the papers, the number of presented papers reached peak in 1999(29.4%) and quantitative research were topped(48.8%).
2. In the topics of research, stress shared 56 papers(22.2%) made the highest frequencies, substance abuse 28 papers(11.1 %), and obesity 25 papers(9.9%).
3. The questionnaire was used most frequently (59.9%) and the tools developed by the researchers(65.1%) are more than the standards. The most frequent place and the subject which had collected data were school(or private academy) and the healthy(individual), sharing 145 papers(57.5%) and 172 papers(68.3%) relatively.
4. Thesises dealing with Infant and toddler stage were 107 papers(42.5%). Major topic was growth and development with 11 papers(4.4%).
5. Thesises dealing with school stage were 55 papers(21.8%). Obesity with 15 papers(6.0%) was topped.
6. In the development stages of children, adolescent age(middle and high school students) reaching 107 papers(42.5%) was topped. The most frequent topic was substance abuse with 24 papers(9.5%).
On the basis of this study, we would like to suggest the followings:
1. We recommend to identify repeated studies based on prior studies.
2. The studies are need regarding children¢¥s characteristics on each developmental stage
3. The method of data collection should be developed regarding to the children¢¥s characteristics.
